Support for wellbeing and learning

At Lake Illawarra High School, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes both student wellbeing and academic success. We offer a range of dedicated services to support the diverse needs of our students.

Learning Support

To assist students in their learning journey, we have a team of dedicated Learning and Support Teachers, School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs), and specialised teachers for English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D), as well as itinerant Vision and Hearing Teachers. These educators work closely with students to tailor learning programs that cater to individual needs and help every student achieve their potential.

Additionally, we run a Homework Club every Thursday afternoon where students receive personalised assistance from staff in a welcoming environment. Afternoon tea is provided to create a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for learning and collaboration.

Wellbeing Support

Supporting our students' wellbeing is a top priority. Our wellbeing team includes a Student Support Officer, Wellbeing SLSOs, School Counsellors, an Aboriginal Education Officer, and outreach services through Headspace. Together, they provide a range of programs and support aimed at promoting mental health, emotional resilience, cultural connection, and overall student wellbeing.

We run various wellbeing programs throughout the year designed to support students’ social and emotional development. Our school has strong ties to the local Indigenous community, ensuring Aboriginal students are supported through cultural enrichment activities that celebrate and strengthen their connection to their heritage.

We are dedicated to ensuring every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed both academically and personally.
